What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?

The aim of counselling and psychotherapy is to provide a safe confidential, supportive space for individuals to explore what is holding them back, to focus on the individual and their individual needs, to gain clarity on their past, to understand their story and their shadows, perhaps to learn some coping strategies and help them move forward. I know it can be a daunting task to come to therapy and I can assure you, you will be listened to without judgmental in a supportive, confidental way. It is a beautiful experience to be truly understood and listened to in our struggles, without judgment which is the basis of any good therapy and this is what I aim to provide. Each client that comes to me has their own unique story and as a result we will have a therapy plan tailored to their needs.

What issues can be addressed in the therapy room?

Counselling and Psychotherapy can work with many presenting problems, some issues I work include but are not limited to Anxiety,  Addiction,  Assertiveness,  Bereavement, Depression, Loss, Low self esteem, Relationship difficulties, Sexual Issues and Stress. If there is something else that you need assistance with and it is not on the list feel free to contact me in confidence and we can discuss whether I can help you.

How many Sessions will I need?

How many sessions is needed will vary greatly from person to person. I have worked with clients in a solution focused way in 6 sessions and had good results, I have also worked with clients for many more sessions where more in-depth work was needed. So really it will depend on the presenting issues. A discussion at your initial consultation should give you more clarity on this.

What should I expect in the first session?

In the first session we will discuss in confidence what brings you to the therapy room, how best we can move forward. In the first meeting you are under no obligation to proceed with therapy if you feel it is not a good fit for you I will not be offended in the slightest if you decided not to continue. If you are however happy to proceed with therapy we can usually arrange a contract for a number of sessions.  We will have a look at your goals in coming to therapy and make a plan going forward.

How much does it cost?

Depending on the nature and duration of the session the fee will vary accordingly. I offer limited sessions at a reduced cost to those who may be experiencing financial difficulty. Feel free to contact me to discuss a payment option to suit your needs. If you are unsure about whether counselling is for you, I can facilitate a confidential telephone conversation to discuss whether counselling would be beneficial.

How long does each session last?

Individual sessions generally last for 60 minutes. For couples a session usually lasts 75 minutes.

Cancellation Policy

It is required that you give at least 24 hours notice to reschedule or to cancel your session. If less than 24 hours notice is given there is a cancellation fee payable at your next session.
